People have been asking what exactly peer support is?
What is Peer Support? Peer support is community. Peer support is connection. Peer Support can be between two people, it can between a group of fifteen people. Through connection we can build trust, through trust we find safety. The trauma(s) that has spawned PTSD, OSI, Workplace Stress is unique to you, and perhaps you alone. The symptoms, the struggles, the interruption in your daily lives however is not. These are shared experiences, often shared by many more than you would expect. It is through these shared experiences that we build connection, that we build trust, and that we find a common thread that can then be woven from a history of Post Traumatic Stress into a landscape of Post Traumatic Growth.
Peer Support is not therapy, it is not counselling, we are not trained Mental Health Professionals, nor do we offer diagnosis, specific advice, thoughts on medications or professional opinions. These are the responsibility of your Mental Health Professional Peer Support meetings are not a place for when you are in crisis. If you are, we urge you to immediately contact your mobile mental health outreach lines, 911, or safety protocols that you have in place.
Stay tuned in the following days for a few more announcements...
